Lucy is a qualified High School Literature teacher who has been teaching for more than 20 years. With an additional background degree in Linguistics, Lucy soon saw there were gaps in English education - HOW to write essays just weren't taught - so she set out to break-down the essay and teach it, brick by brick, just like a language. Her writing courses have been delivered in Cambridge as well as Australia, and she has taught in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, as well as London, Oxford and Cambridge.
Lucy currently lives in Melbourne (Kew East), Victoria, and tutors private students, as well as running short intensive courses. She understands the panic and procrastination that can be felt when required to do something you don't know how to do, and will take students through the entire essay writing process, making sure they have the tools to take control. Lucy has helped students doing VCE, HSC, International Baccalaureate, A-levels, and students in years 7-12.
Being able to write a good essay makes year 11 and 12 so much easier, and allows the focus in these years to then center on analysis. For this reason, it is never too early to get experienced tutoring on how to write an essay. Starting in year 9 or 10 is ideal. Once general essay structure is understood, in years 11 and 12, Lucy can teach structure at a deeper level that insists student analysis is displayed with more and more complexity. Detailed analysis (thinking), combined with solid essay technique are the keys to high VCE results.
